HAITI Saturday, April 24 Day 8:

Going Home.

We were up early as there were 4 levels of security and more baggage people wanting for us at the airport. After checking in we sat around for quite awhile waiting for our flight. While we were getting on one of our teammates was sitting off to the side. She had shown the ticket taker the wrong ticket, and he had waived her to the side...and she had assumed he would let her on later. Fortunately I called her back over and made him recheck…he had had no plans to let her on! Good thing I was still awake! But after finding the right ticket she joined the rest of the team, and all was well.
Once we arrived in the U.S., I remember getting fresh yummy food in the airport. But I mainly remember finally seeing my beautiful Marque once landing in Arkansas…and going home to my kids. They were shocked to see me with a mustache (the one and only of my entire life).
I can’t easily summarize this experience as a whole…but I know this: I was blessed beyond measure to serve the needy of our world. For 1 week my body and mind was able to do what my heart longed to do since hearing of the tragedy. It was hard, yet totally worth it. I could not have done it without the support of my wife, kids, and church…and because I have those things I am more than doubly blessed. I thank God continually.
